Da Nang Port Proposed Hoa Nhon ICD Project for FTZ

Da Nang Port JSC has proposed the Hoa Nhon Inland Container Depot - 12.48 hectares, 150,000 TEU per year - to serve Da Nang FTZ and the East–West Economic Corridor. The project fills a critical logistics gap in the FTZ's operational infrastructure as the Ba Na cluster takes shape.

The Proposal

Da Nang Port JSC has submitted a formal application to the Da Nang Department of Finance requesting approval of investment policy and investor designation for the Hoa Nhon Inland Container Depot project. The facility will occupy 12.48 hectares in Ba Na commune, Da Nang, with a designed throughput capacity of 150,000 TEU per year and an operating term of 50 years from the date of land handover.

The Hoa Nhon ICD's service scope covers the full range of inland container depot functions: container loading and unloading, container and general cargo warehousing, CFS (container freight station) storage, bonded warehousing, customs inspection offices, cargo examination yards, container stripping and stuffing facilities, equipment repair workshops, and associated technical infrastructure. The project's stated purpose is to serve Da Nang Free Trade Zone, Da Nang's functional zones, and the surrounding region - with particular emphasis on connectivity to the Central Key Economic Region and the East–West Economic Corridor linking Vietnam's central coast with Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar via Highway 9.

Why an ICD Matters for Da Nang FTZ

An inland container depot performs a function that port infrastructure alone cannot: it brings customs clearance and cargo management operations closer to the point of production, storage, or consumption, rather than concentrating all formalities at the seaport. For a free trade zone, this distinction is operationally significant. Without an ICD, businesses operating within the FTZ must transport cargo to the seaport to complete customs procedures before goods can move onward - adding transport time, handling costs, and logistical complexity. With a functioning ICD in proximity, those formalities can be completed at or near the zone, reducing total logistics cost and improving supply chain predictability.

Da Nang FTZ's seven functional zones span the Hai Van area, the Ba Na Hills inland zone, and the Lien Chieu Port area. The Hoa Nhon ICD in Ba Na commune sits adjacent to Zone 4 - the 335-hectare functional zone awarded to Thanh Binh Phu My JSC in June 2026 — and would serve as the primary customs and logistics hub for the inland Ba Na cluster of the FTZ. Lien Chieu Port's development as the maritime anchor for the FTZ's port-adjacent zones makes a connecting inland depot all the more important: cargo flows between the inland industrial zones and the port need to be managed efficiently for the FTZ to operate as an integrated system rather than a collection of separate facilities.

Da Nang's Western Corridor Taking Shape

The Hoa Nhon ICD proposal arrives alongside a cluster of investments that together suggest Da Nang's western logistics and industrial corridor is developing with notable momentum. Hoa Ninh Industrial Park - a 400-hectare development by Thanh Binh Phu My JSC with total investment of VND 6,204 billion - broke ground on July 29, 2026, also in Ba Na commune. Zone 4 of Da Nang FTZ, covering 335 hectares in the same geographic cluster, received its investment decision in June. The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association visited Da Nang in late July to explore investment opportunities, reflecting growing interest in the city's industrial ecosystem from technology-sector investors.

Da Nang is simultaneously developing Lien Chieu Port as a deep-water maritime anchor, building out the FTZ's seven functional zones, and now adding the inland logistics infrastructure needed to connect those zones to international shipping. The Hoa Nhon ICD is a relatively small project in isolation - 12.48 hectares and 150,000 TEU annual capacity - but it is a structurally necessary component of the larger system being assembled. For investors evaluating manufacturing, logistics, or distribution operations within Da Nang FTZ, the development of this ICD is a relevant indicator that the zone's operational infrastructure is being taken seriously, not just its investment pipeline.
